A cyclist from Burley in Wharfedale has been given wildcard status for this summer's Tour de France.

As thousands of people across Yorkshire are looking forward to seeing off the world's cycling elite for the Grand Depart of the Tour de France this July, one cyclist from West Yorkshire, dreaming being more than just an onlooker.

23-year-old Scott Thwaites from Burley-in-Wharfedale is one step closer to his dream. His team, netapp Endura, has been handed a wildcard for the event.

21 professionals in the team will battle it out over the next few months to be whittled down to a team of nine who will compete in the biggest cycling race in the world.
