A man has been charged in connection with a murder in Huddersfield at the weekend.

Surjit Singh Sidhu who is 48 is charged with the murder of a man who was found inside a flat on Ashenhurst Rise in the Newsome area of the town.

He is due to appear at Bradford Magistrates court today.

A 30 year old woman who was also arrested has been released on bail.

Huddersfield woman arrested on suspicion of murder

Police investigating the death of a man in Huddersfield have arrested a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of murder. The man's body was found inside a flat on Ashenhurst Rise in the Newsome are of the town. The woman remains in police custody alongside a 48-year-old man arrested yesterday.

"The identity of the deceased is not yet clear although I can confirm he is an adult male who we believe to be the occupant of the flat. This is being treated as an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider community. Local neighbourhood policing team officers are also providing reassurance patrols in the area, speaking to residents about their concerns."

Murder investigation launched in Huddersfield

Detectives have this evening launched a murder investigation after the body of a man was found inside a flat on Ashenhurst Rise in the Newsome area of Huddersfield.

Officers were called to the flat at around 1pm and a 48-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is currently in custody and police say enquiries are ongoing.
