A body found in North Yorkshire has been confirmed as that of Gemma Simpson.

Gemma Simpson was 23 when she was last seen in the Harehills area of Leeds 14 years ago.

Last month, a 44-year-old man from Scarborough was charged with her murder.

"Officers investigating the murder of Gemma Simpson can now confirm that human remains located in the vicinity of Brimham Rocks in North Yorkshire are those of Gemma.

"Gemma's family have been informed."

Police investigating the murder of a missing woman have found human remains near Brimham Rocks, in North Yorkshire.

Gemma Simpson was 23 when went missing in Leeds in 2000.

Officers are now working to identify the body. Gemma's family have been informed of the developments.

Police officers investigating the murder of Gemma Simpsonhave found human remains near Brimham rocks in North Yorkshire.

As a result of extensive work in this area officers from West Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Police have now located human remains.

It will take some time before the identification of the body can be confirmed but Gemma's family have been kept fully informed of developments.

Brimham Rocks itself remains open to the public.
