A pensioner has died after a three car collision on the southbound A1 at junction 56 between Barton and Scotch Corner.
The incident occurred at 7.40am this morning. The driver of a Red Ford Focus involved in the incident, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a local man from Darlington aged 72. The other two occupants of the Focus were uninjured.
The occupants of the other two vehicles, a Silver Peugeot 206 and a Black Nissan Qashqai were also uninjured.
North Yorkshire Police are asking anyone who saw the Red Ford Focus prior to the incident to contact them with any information.
A woman has died after a Vauxhall Corsa was in collision with an HGV on the slip road, leading from the village of Long Bennington to the southbound carriageway of the A1 in Lincolnshire.
A female passenger in the Corsa was certified dead at the scene. The 18-year-old driver was taken to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham with arm and other injuries which are not believed life-threatening. Two other females in the car were not seriously injured.
The HGV driver, who is 52, and from the Grimsby area is not thought to be injured.
This the sixth death on the roads of Lincolnshire in 2013 compared to four over the same period in 2012 when the full year total was 39.
