A West Yorkshire Liberal Democrat MP has warned that cutting the top rate of tax for those on the highest incomes “could send out the wrong message”.
It comes amid growing speculation that the Chancellor George Osborne will announce that the rate paid on earnings over £150,000 a year is to be lowered from 50p to 45p.
"Any change here must be accompanied by clear and effective taxes on the highest earners to make clear that the Government remains committed to fairness, which means those with the broadest shoulders bearing the greatest burden".
