Away draws for Yorkshire teams in League Cup

The draw for the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup hasn't been kind to either Sheffield Wednesday or Hull City - with both clubs facing difficult away ties against Premier League opposition.

The Owls travel to Stoke, while Hull have a daunting trip to Manchester City.

The ties will be played on the week commencing 30th November.


Tigers beat Leicester City on penalties

Hull City have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup after a 5-4 win on penalties over Leicester City at the KC Stadium.

After a goalless 90 minutes, Riyad Mahrez gave Leicester the lead - only for that to be wiped out by Abel Hernandez soon after.

Mahrez missed the only spot-kick of the shootout and it proved costly as David Meyler stepped up to net the winner and send the home crowd into raptures.

Owls upset Arsenal in League Cup

Sheffield Wednesday have dumped Arsenal out of the League Cup with an emphatic 3-0 win at Hillsborough.

Goals from Ross Wallace and Lucas João in the first half and a Sam Hutchinson strike in the second half completed a major upset for the Owls - securing them a place in the quarter-finals of the knockout competition.

It's the second time the Championship outfit have beaten Premier League opposition in the League Cup this season, having got the better of Newcastle United in the previous round.


Sheffield United's Capital One Cup semi-final dates confirmed

Both legs of United’s Capital One Cup semi-final with Tottenham Hotspur will be played on Wednesday evenings in January.

The first-leg, which will be played at White Hart Lane, will take place on Wednesday 21st January, kick-off 7.45pm.

The second-leg at Bramall Lane, will be played a week later on Wednesday 28th January, kick-off again 7.45pm.

United progressed to the semi-finals with victories over Mansfield Town, West Ham United, Leyton Orient, MK Dons and Southampton, whilst Chelsea play Liverpool in the other last four tie.
