A diver in his thirties from West Yorkshire has gone missing in the Lake District.
The Police Underwater Search team searched Wastwater Lake until 6.30am today and were deployed along with the Coastguard, Fire & Rescue Service, Ambulance, RAF Helicopter and Mountain Rescue.
The other agencies involved in the shore search were stood down at 6.30pm last night due to it being too dark and dangerous to continue in the conditions.
The missing diver’s family have been contacted and are being kept up to date by police officers.
A diver from Halifax has died after losing his air supply 150 feet underwater. Ian Woolston was exploring the wreck of German U-boat the U12 in Scotland when he was seen signalling to his dive partner that he was returning to the surface.
His partner tried to save him by pushing him upwards. Rescue boat crew tried to resuscitate Ian, who was raced to a pressure chamber by a helicopter, for 30 minutes, but he died later.
