They are officially the most promoted team in English rugby union history.
During 13 years in the 90's and naughties the Doncaster Knights moved up seven divisions.
But despite their league success, cup glory has so far eluded them.
But that could be put right tomorrow when the Knights take on Worcester in the final of the British and Irish Cup.
Chris Dawkes reports:
Doncaster Knights have signed Ben Hooper from Leeds Carnegie on loan until the end of the season. The front-rower will join up with Clive Griffiths' side for the remainder of the Championship season.
Ben has been signed to cover tight-head prop, we were a bit light in that area after the injury suffered to Tom Francis and we believe he fits the mould of player we are after.
He is a very experienced player having played for both Rotherham and Leeds and he will give us solid back up at prop. He is a very welcome addition to the squad for the remainder of the Championship season.
We found out he was available at Leeds so we moved fast to sign him, he is a needed addition to the squad and will bring even more competition to our strong forward pack.”
Doncaster Knights have signed Newport Gwent Dragons hooker Rhys Buckley for the 2012/13 season.
22 year-old Buckley has graduated through the professional youth set-up in South Wales.
He spent two years in the Principality Premiership for Pontypool before being picked up by his region.
The Director of Rugby seems to be putting a strong side together for next season and the aim is to reach the top four – giving us a chance of promotion in the play-offs. I hope I will bring a bit of experience to the side having played regular regional rugby earlier in the season, but found myself behind a former New Zealand international and Welsh World Cup hooker. I’m already excited to get involved in pre-season and win a first team spot to further my rugby career with Doncaster as the Club share my ambitions to succeed at the highest level.
