Family pay tribute to 'lovely lad' killed in Sheffield crash

The family of Liam Parkin, who was killed in a crash in Sheffield on Saturday, has paid tribute to him.

Liam, 19, from Sheffield, was inside a Peugeot involved in a crash with an Astra in Blackburn Road at around 1am. He died at the scene.

His mother said: "I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been there for us. He was so well liked by so many people he will be missed by us all."

His grandmother, who he lived with, said: "He was such a lovely young lad whose life has been cut too short."

Joshua Fothergill, also 19, from Rotherham, was inside the Astra and also died at the scene.

Three other men inside the Peugeot – a 24-year-old from Rotherham, an 18-year-old from Rotherham and a 21-year-old man - were injured and were taken to hospital for treatment. Two of them have since been discharged.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and has been released on bail.

Sheffield crash victims named

Two men killed in a collision in Sheffield in the early hours of Saturday December 20 have been named.

Joshua Fothergill, 19, from Rotherham, was inside a black Vauxhall Astra and died at the scene. Liam Parkin, 19, from Sheffield, was in a blue Peugeot 206 and also died at the scene.

Three other men inside the Peugeot – a 24-year-old from Rotherham, an 18-year-old from Rotherham and a 21-year-old man - were injured and were taken to hospital for treatment. Two of them have since been discharged.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or to anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision.

Two men die in early morning smash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after two men died in an early morning crashin Sheffield.

The crash between a black Vauxhall Astra and a blue Peugeot 206 happened in Blackburn Road, Wincobank, at around 1am.

A man in each car died at the scene of the crash. Three others in the Peugeot were injured and were taken to hospital for treatment.<

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision."

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the crash or either car before the incident to contact them.

The road was closed for six hours, following the accident, but has now re-opened.

Pedestrian dies in Whitby collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was killed near Whitby.

The pedestrian, a 35-year-old local man, was hit by a black Ford Focus on the A171 Scarborough to Whitby road yesterday at around 5.40pm .

He is believed to have been crossing the road near the entrance to the Flask Inn and Fylingdales Service Station when the collision occurred. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Scarborough Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Focus was travelling north in the direction of Whitby and was being driven by a 34-year-old man from Redcar, who was uninjured in the incident.

The road was closed for around six-and-a-half hours while officers conducted a detailed examination of the scene.
