Railway volunteer laid to rest

The funeral is being held today for a volunteer worker who died on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Robert Lund, who was 65, died after he was trapped between two carriages as he worked at Grosmont Station on May 21.

His funeral service will be held at Beverley Minster. A reduced timetable will be in operation on the railway so staff and fellow volunteers can attend.

Mr Lund, who lived in Beverley, retired from Humberside Police in 1997 and continued to work as a civilian in the force until last year.

In a statement, a spokesman for the moors railway said Mr Lund was a "much-loved and respected colleague".

He said staff and volunteers appreciated the "support and understanding" of travellers and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the timetable changes.
