Sheffield United draw at Preston

Sheffield United have continued their unbeaten run with a 0-0 draw away to Preston North End.

The FA Cup Semi-Finalists struggled to break down a stubborn Preston rearguard and had a late penalty appeal turned down.

The result leaves Nigel Clough's men tenth in League One, ten points off the playoffs having played one game fewer than sixth placed Peterborough and two fewer than MK Dons, Walsall and Swindon in seventh, eighth and ninth.

League One Play-off Final 1st half report

Huddersfield goalkeeper Alex Smithies and Sheffield United opposite number Steve Simonsen did not have a save to make as the first half of the all-Yorkshire npower League One final at Wembley ended goalless.

United, bidding to win their first play-off final at the fourth attempt, failed to muster an effort on goal in an opening period that was fast and full-blooded, but short on finesse. Huddersfield, beaten finalists when losing to Peterborough at Old Trafford last season and semi final losers the year

before, shaded possession but also made little impression on a determined defence. Forty-goal striker Jordan Rhodes hardly got a kick while the South Yorkshire side failed to score, just as they did in play-off final defeats in 1997, 2003 and 2009.
