Peppa Pig hot topic at Stags press conference

They are fifth in League Two, a real success story this season, so why would you want to upset the manager of Mansfield Town?

Well one local newspaper did after last week's match and the boss, Adam Murray, was not best pleased.

In fact he was so angry he sent his 7-year-old son to talk to the media this week.

York have appointed former Northern Ireland boss, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday player Nigel Worthington as their new manager.

The Minstermen sacked Gary Mills following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Bradford - a result which left them 18th in npower League Two and four points above the relegation zone.

York City sack manager Gary Mills

York City have sacked manager Gary Mills after the League 2 side lost 2-0 to Bradford City. York have had a run of 11 games without a win. In a statement, the club's board of directors said its absolute priority is to safeguard the club’s Football League status.

It is with regret that the York City Board of Directors has terminated the contract of manager, Gary Mills, with immediate effect. The recent playing form, which has resulted in the team achieving only 6 points out of a possible 33 points, has led the Board to this extremely difficult decision.

The York City Board of Directors’ absolute priority is to safeguard the Club’s Football League status and an improvement in results is essential due to our current League position.

The Board added their thanks to Gary Mills for his "great contribution to York City Football Club and for managing last season’s promotion team. We wish Gary the very best for his future career." The club says it hopes to make an announcement about a new manager within the next week.

York are 18th in the League 2 table and just four points above the drop zone. Mills, a European Cup winner as a player with Nottingham Forest in1980, was appointed as manager at York in October 2010 and led the club to promotion back into the football league last season.
