The first direct arena in Leeds has been awarded the prestigious title of new venue of the year at the Stadium Business Awards in London.
The 13,000 venue beat off stiff global competition at the prestigous ceremony at the RAF museum in London.
The new Leeds Arena which opened last summer with performances by Bruce Springsteen and Sir Elton John beat other nominees including the new Olympic Stadium in Sochi, the SSE Hydro in Glasgow and the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice.
The award is assessed by a panel of industry experts worldwide including judges from Australia, the USA and Europe.
The Leeds Arena's got a new name - after it's sponsors were announced this morning. It will now be known as the "First Direct Arena" after the Leeds-based bank was unveiled as their partners earlier. The multi-million pound concert venue opens in September.
John Sutherland, the chief executive of SMG Europe, who will run the venue has welcomed the tie-up with First Direct.
