Injured motorcyclist survives three nights in ditch
A 40 year old motorcyclist from Goole has been found alive but with serious injuries after spending three nights in a ditch after he was reported missing by his partner. Humberside police began a search after he did not turn up for work and it was later discovered his new motorbike was missing.
Traffic officers drove the route from his home to work and the police helicopter and firefighters were also called in to search rivers, reservoirs, fields, ditches, houses, gardens, and any other likely location the man could have been in the Thorne, Rawcliffe and Snaith area.
The man was eventually found 6ft down a ditch, lying in water, conscious and breathing. He suffered serious injuries including broken ribs and hyperthermia and he is currently being treated at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. Inspector Rob Cocker said:
This was a large scale missing person enquiry and required resources being pulled in from Scunthorpe and Hull and the use of the South Yorkshire Helicopter for three days. All officers feared the worst and it was very pleasing to find the man alive and wish him well with his recovery. It is a credit to his determination that he is still alive."
