Pinderfields condemned for "completely unacceptable" failings

A hospital in West Yorkshire has been ordered to make urgent improvements after patients were left in an unsuitable ward without proper facilities for days on end.

Thirty patients at Pinderfields Hospital, in Wakefield were kept for more than 24 hours in what was meant to be a just a day ward. They had to wash from disposable cardboard bowls, eat sandwiches or microwave meals and keep their belongings on the floor.

The official health watchdog the Care Quality Commission, says the failings were completely unaceptable. Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust, which runs Pinderfields has apologised and said it has made significant improvements.
