The new Magna Carta exhibition at Lincoln Castle will be officially opened by the Princess Royal today. The historic document, which is celebrating its 800th anniversary this year, is now housed in a purpose built vault at the Castle.
The David PJ Ross Magna Carta Vault is the centrepiece of the £22m Lincoln Castle Revealed refurbishment project. It features an underground widescreen cinema allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the story of King John, the barons and the birth of the Great Charter like never before.
It is also the only place in the world where a 1215 Magna Carta and be seen alongside its sister document, the 1217 Charter of the Forest.
The Princess Royal is making a visit to the region today. Her Royal Highness will be at Lincoln College to open a state of the art building which will be used for sports and leisure activities and events.
She will be shown around the new facilities at the Monks Road campus where she will meet students studying a range of programmes. Guests from across the county will also be at the ceremony.
Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal is to visit St Botolph's Church in Boston today to formally open its new Community and Visitor facilities and to view progress on the restoration of the North Face of the Tower.
After driving through the Market Place she will arrive at the north door of the church at 3.40pm where she will attend a short service of dedication led by the Bishop of Lincoln, tour the new facilities, unveil a plaque, and view the restoration work underway on the north face of the tower.
