Scunthorpe dip into transfer market

Scunthorpe United have made three signings in a bid to consolidate top spot in League Two.

The Iron have brought in Republic of Ireland striker Paddy Madden from Yeovil in a deal reportedly worth £300,000, and they've snapped up two former loanees - Dave Syers and Marcus Williams - on permanent deals from Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United respectively.

Ahead of tomorrow's game at Mansfield, Calendar's sports correspondent John Shires has been speaking to manager Russ Wilcox, who's overseen a run of six wins and two draws since taking over from Brian Laws in November.

Wilcox nominated for Manager of the Month

Scunthorpe United boss Russ Wilcox has been nominated for the League Two Manager of the Month award for December.

Since stepping up to take over as caretaker in November when Brian Laws was sacked, Wilcox has overseen an unbeaten run of six wins and two draws - results that have taken the club to the top of the table. He's also been given the job on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile the Iron's veteran striker Deon Burton has been nominated for the League Two Player of the Month award after scoring four goals in December.
