A market town is today paying tribute to a Yorkshire soldier shot dead with a colleague by a rogue Afghan policeman. Sergeant Gareth Thursby, described as inspirational by senior officers, was killed last year in a so-called green on blue attack.
This afternoon his name is being added to the war memorial in Skipton where he was brought up.
A rededication service at the Skipton war memorial will take place today, with the name of a fallen soldier added to it. Sergent Gareth Thursby who served in the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, was shot dead by a rogue Afghanistan police officer in Helmand Province in September.
