The people of Chesterfield and supporters of the town's football club are being asked to put a street name to the Club’s old home ground at Saltergate. Chesterfield Borough Council usually comes up with street names in the Borough but they have opened this special one up to the public.
Councillor John Burrows, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council said:
“It’s only fitting that the people of Chesterfield and Club supporters have a say in what we should name this street."
"The old ground played such a significant part in many people’s lives so I’m sure many will want to have an input into this lasting legacy to the Club’s former home.”
The Council has teamed up with the Club to run a competition, with a public vote taken on a number of suggestions. The most popular choice will be allocated to the one street that runs through the new housing development on the Saltergate site.
The winning voter will receive a special matchday experience ticket for two people at the Club’s Proact Stadium.
Chris Turner, Chief Executive at Chesterfield Football Club said:
“We know there will be many fans out there that will have a view on their favourites and we expect to hear some great names past and present who are associated with the Club.”
