A teenager accused of stabbing to death an elderly woman and injuring her husband has appeared before magistrates in Hull. The court was told that the couple were stabbed in their beds. Victoria Whittam reports.
The 17 year old youth accused of killing Irene Dale and seriously injuring her husband Allan Dale spoke only to confirm his date of birth when he appeared in front of magistrates this morning.
The youngster, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of stabbing Irene Dale seriously injuring Allen Dale while they slept in their beds. Police were called to the couples home on Summergangs Road in East Hull at 3.30am on Saturday morning.
Mrs Dale - 70 - suffered stab wounds to the chest and died. Mr Dale who is in his 80's is being treated for serious injuries at Hull Royal Infirmary. The 17-year-old has been charged with murder and attempted murder. His next hearing is at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday.

The woman, in her 70s, and a man, in his 80s, were found seriously injured at the property in Summergangs Road early yesterday morning at around 3.30am.
The woman died at the scene but the man was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as serious but stable.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the city centre, close to Primark on Carr Lane, and is currently being questioned by detectives.
A post mortem is being carried out to determine the cause of the woman's death.
