Thousands of PCS union members across the country - including some in the Calendar region - are to take part in a strike over cuts and closures which they claim threaten vital services to the public.
The Department of Transport have been carrying out industrial action over the past two months. The unions 8,500 transport members will be joined today by 3,500 from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in the walkout.
Those taking part in the action are doing so because:
- They are against planned closures to coastguard stations across the country
- Are angry at plans to close almost 40 DVLA local offices
- Have concerns over 'job cuts and privatisation' at Defra
