Ben Smithson's only chance of walking lay in the hands of surgeons in America. Villagers in his home town of Ilkley raised £40,000 to send Ben, who has a form of cerebral palsy, across the Atlantic.
Ben had his life-changing surgery in January last year and now 14 months on Ben is walking, and the pioneering surgery is now going to be made available to other children in Leeds.
