An investigation is underway following an explosion in a caravan near Whitby.
The touring caravan was completely destroyed in the incident which happened this morning at a farm near Goathland. A 55 year old man and a 51 year old woman, both from Whitby, were taken to hospital with burns.
The man was taken to a burns unit at a hospital in Newcastle with severe burns, the woman to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesborough. The extent and severity of their injuries is not yet known. At this stage the explosion is not being treated as suspicious.
