Caravan tax petition considered

VAT rise could be debated in the House of Commons Credit: Calendar

Plans to apply the standard VAT rate to the sale of static caravans is a step closer to being considered for debate in Parliament. An e-petition created has received over 10,000 signatures. Under government rules any e-petition with at least 100,000 will be considered.

The petition, entitled "Drop the VAT hike on the sale of static caravans", says that if the 20% rate goes ahead "it will have a disastrous impact on the industry making hundreds of skilled workers redundant."
