Scarborough assault - witnesses sought

Scarborough police are appealing for two vital witnesses to come forward after a 12-year-old boy was assaulted.

Sometime between 4pm and 5pm on Wednesday the victim was attacked on the basketball court of Sainsbury’s play park near Wykeham Street.

He was punched in the face several times before a passer-by, a woman with a pram, intervened and stopped the assault. Officers are keen to speak to her.

A girl is thought to have filmed the incident on her mobile phone and police would like her to assist the investigation.

Fortunately, the victim was not seriously injured in this incident but it was a nasty assault and fortunately a woman stopped to help him.

“I urge her to come forward as soon as possible, as she may be able to help us to identify the offender.

“I would also urge the girl who filmed the assault on her phone to come forward as well. She may have information that is vital to our investigation.

“I also appeal to anyone else who witnessed the incident to contact the police or Crimestoppers and help us bring the offender to justice.”
