Take your dog to work

Dog owners across the region are being encouraged to take their dogs to work today. It is part of a campaign raising the profile of pet adoption. Take your Dog to Work Day was set up 14 years ago to celebrate the relationship between pets and their owners.

Owlerton Greyhound Stadium in Sheffield is one business taking part in the day as they rely on adoption to re-home retired racing greyhounds.

This is such a great initiative with a strong message and I would really like to take this opportunity to ask as many local employers as possible to get involved! Not only is pet adoption such a vital part of so many animal charities -but the benefits of having dogs in the workplace have long since been reported. I personally will be celebrating Take your Dog to Work Day this year by bringing my own dog Lucy along to the Stadium for the day, although I don't think she will be running round the track!

– John Gilburn, Managing Director of Owlerton Stadium

A recent study suggested that taking a dog to work can reduce stress and make the job more satisfying for colleagues. The preliminary study, published in the International Journal of Workplace Health Management, found that dogs in the workplace may buffer the impact of stress during the day.
