MP for Bradford South, Gerry Sutcliffe, pays tribute to Marsha Singh.
Mr Singh stepped down as an MP in March due to poor health. He was replaced at the subsequent byelection by Respect Party candidate George Galloway.
Labour MP Angela Smith has described Mr Singh as "a lovely, warm man of great integrity".
He was born on October 11 1954. He joined Lloyds Bank as a graduate trainee, but wanted to do community work in Bradford home city and in 1979 went to work for Bradford Community Relations Council.
A year later he joined the Bradford Law Centre, and in 1983 he moved to the city’s Directorate of Education. From 1990 until his election as an MP, he was senior development manager at Bradford Community Health Trust.
