Police hunt cable thieves

Stokesley police are appealing for information following a second theft of cable on the A172. Thieves stole 800m of cable from the road in July. The second theft, of around 1100m of cable, took place at the beginning of August.

As well as stealing the cable, the offenders also caused significant amount of damage to cereal crops in the fields they entered to steal the cable.

The investigations have shown that whoever stole the cable will have used specialised cutting equipment to remove it. If you can identify the people responsible for this theft I urge you to contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away. I would also like to hear from you if you may have seen any suspicious activity in the area or vehicles parked in unusual locations. I am particularly keen to speak to any scrap metal dealers who may have been offered the cable. Working with these dealers is a key way to reducing the theft of cable."
