A rescued seal who has spent the last few months living at a wildlife sanctuary in Skegness will now stay there permanently. Staff at Natureland were refused permission to release Eve, who is a hooded seal, back into her native waters off the coast of Iceland in case she is carrying any diseases.
Eve first arrived at Natureland last December after being found off the coast at Chapel St Leonards looking exhausted and overweight. She had been fitted with a transmitter on her head by a nature reserve in Germany which had previously cared for her after being stranded.
Data from the transmitter showed that after her release, instead of continuing back to her native arctic waters she turned around near Scotland and headed south down the east coast. She is now 16 months old and has spent 11 of those in captivity.
