Lord Hattersley takes up role with Helen's Trust

Lord Hattersley has been named patron of a charity which supports people in Sheffield and North Derbyshire with a terminal illness to remain in their own home.

The Sheffield-born peer is to take up the role with Helen's Trust.

I am delighted to be a patron of Helen's Trust and will do all I can to support its invaluable work in Sheffield and North Derbyshire. Staying at home was my mother's greatest wish during her final years, an ambition which she managed to achieve until a few days before she died in her 97th year. I very much doubt that she would have survived so long in hospital or residential care. She certainly enjoyed all the little pleasures that made her life worthwhile. Helen's Trust aims to make the freedom of staying at home more widely available and it will be a privilege to contribute to its work."

– Lord Hattersley

The trust helps people of any age with a terminal illness and is free to those who need it. It is funded by voluntary income and receives no statutory funding.
