Police are appealing for witnesses after a road traffic collision in Bradford in which a 12 year old boy died. He has been named as Bilal Raffey Khizar. It happened at around 7pm on Saturday 6 October, on Rooley Lane when a police car stopped a red Seat Ibiza in a lay-by for a check.
When the officers got out of their car to approach the vehicle it drove off along Rooley Lane. The police officers got back into their vehicle to follow. The collision, involving Bilal, happened shortly afterwards on a crossing close to the Asda store.
The car did not stop and continued onto the Chain Bar roundabout on the M606 where it collided with two other vehicles. It was later found on Westfield Lane at Wyke. Two people have been arrested.
– West Yorkshire police statement
_Because the collision happened immediately after police contact, with officers in initial pursuit, the IPCC were contacted last night and one of their investigators attended the scene to undertake their independent assessment into the police role. West Yorkshire police have responsibility for the criminal investigation. This is the usual and agreed procedure into such incidents. _
