A West Yorkshire MP has called on the Government to ban the import of ash saplings to tackle the "scourge of ash dieback".
Barry Sheerman, the Labour MP for Huddersfield, has tabled a Parliamentary motion urging ministers to take "immediate action".
That this House is deeply disturbed by the rapid increase of the scourge of ash dieback in the UK, which has been confirmed on at least 10 sites; notes that this disease has the capacity to destroy up to 30 per cent of our native woodlands; and calls on the Government to avoid prolonged consultation and take immediate action to ban the import of ash saplings, the known source of the problem.
