Warning over possible cuts in Wakefield

Residents in Wakefield are being warned to brace themselves for possible cuts to services as councillors look to save £69 million over the next four years.

The authority says it is being forced to make the savings because of changes in government funding and the figure is on top of the 41 million pounds of cuts already being made by the council.

Council leaders have said the priority was to protect the vulnerable, but said big changes to services were inescapable. Cabinet members will discuss the cuts at a meeting next week.
