A high number of prisoners have had a traumatic brain injury, according to a study done on offenders at Leeds Prison. Over 600 offenders were screened on admission to prison, and those who had sustained a traumatic brain injury were assessed by specialists.

The results were compared with a control group of prisoners without such injuries. The study also investigated the impact brain injuries have on reoffending rates and the ability of prisoners to take part in rehabilitation activities.
