Young Muslims are being encouraged to give blood at the Leeds Donor Centre in Leeds on 4th December as part of a nationwide campaign.

The Imam Hussain (A.S) Blood Donation Campaign aims to increase the number of regular blood donors from Muslim communities by organising co-ordinated blood drives in 10 cities across the UK.

Since its inception in 2006 by students in the Islamic Unity Society (IUS) the campaign has recruited hundreds of new donors annually for NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), and has become more successful each year. This year the aim is to get even more people to sessions across the country.

At present only 3% of regular blood donors are from an Asian, African and African-Caribbean background.
