Plans to start charging people for the collection of garden waste bins have been thrown out by Craven District Council. The authority was thinking of bringing in a £24 annual fee for the service, which is free at present.

The council hoped the charge would create savings of almost £150,000 a year. But at a full council meeting, the decision to charge homeowners was scrapped following mass objection.
