Flood waters threaten sheltered homes

A makeshift flood bridge has been erected outside a sheltered housing complex at Skeldergate, York for the third time in six months.

So far residents can still get to and from their flats as normal, but the River Ouse has broken its banks and York Council workers are laying sandbags in vulnerableriverside areas.

Meanwhile flooding affected a number of rail services, which were also delayed when animals got on to the line near Micklefield in Yorkshire.
