British Transport Police investigating a fight on board a train between York and Leeds are appealing for the public’s help to identify two men. They have released CCTV images of the men they want to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place at 10.12pm on Saturday, 13 October.
PC Kamala Nadkarni, the investigating officer, said: “A number of passengers boarded the train at York after returning from a day out at the York Racecourse. A man was talking to a woman on one side of the train while a group of men were stood on the opposite side.
"One of the group went up to the man and tried to grab him by the throat before a fight broke out. Unprovoked, another member of the group then punched a man who was standing close by and not believed to have been involved in the initial altercation.
"At Leeds station the person who grabbed the first man got off with the person who assaulted the second man. They made their way over the footbridge to wait for another train at a different platform.
"The train was busy at the time and we believe there may have been many witnesses who saw what took place. I would urge anyone who recognises these men or knows their whereabouts to please get in touch.”
