Man charged with Doncaster fraud offences

A 26-year-old man from Doncaster has been arrested in Balby soon after police received reports of a fraud offence.

This offence was thought to be similar to numerous previous offences committed in Balby, Edlington, Hexthorpe and Intake.

A young man was believed to have targeted elderly residents in the area in order to fraudulently obtain cash. Officers were told that the man was claiming that his elderly grandmother had been taken ill and that he urgently needed money to pay for a taxi in order to visit her in hospital.

Ryan Harris from Balby was charged with fourteen offences of fraud. He appeared before Doncaster Magistrates Court this morning and has been remanded in custody until he is due to reappear on Tuesday, 29 January.

We would like to reassure the public, in particular elderly residents in Balby, Edlington, Hexthorpe and Intake, that we take all incidents of this nature very seriously. We would also like to thank the public that have assisted with the public appeals by ringing 101 with information. We continue to urge anyone with information about this type of crime to come forward.
