A derelict house in Whitby has been sealed off after workmen renovating the building, found a body. North Yorkshire Police say the body appears to have been in the property "for some time." They are treating the death as unexplained.
Police were called to the house in Broomfield Terrace, behind Bagdale, near the town centre, shortly after 2pm on Saturday. Police have released few other details and have not said whether the body is that of a man or a woman.
A number of rumours circulated on social media about the discovery of the body and police have now urged people not to speculate about what has happened.
"Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the identity and cause of death to establish if there are any suspicious circumstances. While police enquiries are ongoing, we urge people to refrain from speculating about the incident. We are not likely to be in a position to have further updates for several days."
