Flood fears as snow replaced by rain

There are five flood warnings in place for Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the north midlands. A flood warning is the Environment Agency's second highest alert for flooding and is defined as "Flooding is expected. Immediate action required".

It is used anywhere between half and hour to one day before flooding is expected. The Environment Agency suggests the following action:

  • Move family, pets and valuables to a safe place.
  • Turn off gas, electricity and water supplies if safe to do so.
  • Put flood protection equipment in place.

The latest warnings are for Lincolnshire, north Derbyshire and North and East Yorkshire. There are also around 40 'flood alerts' for our region. They are the agency's third most serious out of their four flood warning types.

Find the warnings and alerts near you on the Environment Agency website.
