Council house rent to rise in Barnsley

Council house tenants in Barnsley will see an increase in their rent by an average of £4.06 from April. Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council plan to provide 'targeted support for those tenants who will be directly affected by the changes'.

“This rent increase is regrettable but Barnsley and indeed, South Yorkshire in general, has had historically low rents. This has now been made impossible as we have to be in line with government policy to bring council house rents to the same level as Housing Association rents.”
