Appeal after assault in Huddersfield

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault yesterday afternoon in Huddersfield.

At around 3:15pm a male student in his twenties was walking along Whitehead Road when he saw a group of men asking a woman for a cigarette.

The woman was heard to refuse and walk away, at which point the victim was stopped by the group of men who asked him for a cigarette.

The victim refused and was then threatened for his mobile phone. Fearing for his safety, the victim gave the suspects cash instead of his phone and tried to walk away.

Following the victim, one of the suspects headbutted the man, who then also had his watch stolen. The suspects then made off in an unknown direction.

The main suspect was a man with brown hair, wearing blue jeans and a brightly coloured jacket. The other suspects could not be described.
