Boundary Commission to review Doncaster Council

The number of local councillors in Doncaster is to be reviewed.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has been asked to establish whether the size of the council is appropriate. It will begin its work in April and draft recommendations are expected to be published in 2014.

It will meet with the full Council, the Mayor, the Group Leaders, parishes and officers.

Peter Davies, the Mayor or Doncaster, said he was "delighted to welcome the Commission".

It has long been my view that reducing the number of councillors and the huge burden they put on the localcouncil tax payer is essential. At themoment the outrageous bill for political salaries (allowances) comes to over a million pounds and most of them have very little to do.

– Peter Davies, Mayor of Doncaster
