Fighting to keep Sheffield leisure centre open

A campaigner trying to save a Sheffield leisure centre from closure is taking on a physical challenge to highlight their fight.

Stocksbridge Leisure Centre is at risk of closure as Sheffield City Council says it is unable to continue to subsidise it as part of it's programme of cuts to the budget.

Campaigners have until the end of April to form a business plan to keep the leisure centre going.

One of the group, Peter Morton, is swimming the River Don today to "highlight the dangerous alternatives open to the children of the Town if Sheffield City Council succeed in closing the leisure centre."
