All congenital heart surgery has been suspended at Leeds General Infirmary with immedate effect.
The suspension of both adult and children's surgery follows a number of claims made against the hospital, including some relating to patient welfare.
The decision was taken after discussions with the NHS Commissioning Board and the Care Quality Commission.
Emergency cardiac surgery will continue.
It's being reported the hospital trust has spoken to the families of people immediately affected by the decision.
The move comes only a day after a High Court judge quashed a decision by the NHS to stop children's heart surgery at the hospital.
