As millions of holidaymakers prepare for the long weekend, motorists are being urged to check on the latest weather and roads information before they set off in what’s predicted to be one of the coldest Easter weekends on record.
People are also being encouraged to drop in on elderly neighbours or call elderly relatives before they go away to make sure they have what they need to see them through the next few days of sub-zero temperatures.
Council websites are being updated with the latest local weather information, news on gritting routes, road conditions and closures, advice on driving in snow and ice and what to take on long car journeys.
