Two people have died in a crash near Gate Helmsley, York. Police say they were a man and a woman both in their eighties and from the York area.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision which occurred at around 1.20pm yesterday afternoon on Northgate Lane. It involved a white Citroen in which the couple were travelling and a green Land Rover and trailer travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Land Rover, a man in his twenties, also from the York area, was treated for minor injuries at the scene. The road remains closed while collision investigators examine the scene.
