Surfers' wave worries over sea defence plans

What the defences could look like

Surfers say new sea defences planned for Scarborough's South Bay could destroy the waves which attract hundreds of board riders to the beach.

There's a public meeting tonight at the Spa complex to discuss the scheme which the local council says is vital to protect the coastline.

The defences would include a wall of boulders propped up against the seawall - but local surfers are warning the rocks could be dangerous and ruin the waves.
