A man killed when the car in which he was travelling overturned and hit a lamppost has been named as 18-year-old Josh Powell of Park Avenue, Grimethorpe.
A 25-year-old who was also in the car is in Barnsley District Hospital where he is being treated for injuries described as life-threatening.
The two men were travelling in a silver Peugeot 306 convertible in Engine Lane, from the direction of Shafton, at 3.15am when it left the road negotiating a slight left-hand bend. Both were thrown from the car on impact.
Police believe the car was travelling in excess of the speed limit when it left the road. It is not yet known who was driving the car.
